Health and Tourism ministers guarantee committment, promotion and support to health tourism

The Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, expressed the opportunity and commitment that exists with the promotion of health tourism in the country, by advocating a public-private alliance, which has been guarantor of the success of the Dominican Republic as the main tourist destination of the Caribbean and Latin America.

He said that as a sign of that commitment, all Tourism Promotion Offices (OPT) that Mitur has throughout the world will be at the service of this growing sector, such as health tourism. According to the official, “ We have a great opportunity to get on this platform that has had tourism in the Dominican Republic and make a public-private alliance, exactly as it has been done with the development of tourism. ”

While the Minister of Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, reaffirmed the importance of working in accordance with the protocols of care and habilitation, complying with local regulations and promoting initiatives such as the quality seal for health tourism providers and international certifications, encouraging Security and quality of services.

While Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, President of the Dominican Health Tourism Association emphasized that medical tourism is a promising market niche, however, not all local service providers are prepared to provide services to the international community, Preparation, compliance with safety standards and guarantees and good practices are required, which is why it is so important to strengthen the regulation and programs of safe surgery, infection control and implement the seal of quality for health tourism providers.
