ADTS and AF Comunicacion Estratégica hold third Investment Lunch with more than 10 billion pesos in new medical tourism projects

The important business meeting was sponsored by the Banco Popular Dominicano with the collaboration of ProDominicana in the closing of the 5th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress.

Santo Domingo. With the purpose of contributing to innovation and ventures that will shape the future of medicine and the Dominican health tourism sector, the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS) and AF Comunicación Estratégica held the 3rd edition of the Private Investment Lunch as the closing act of the “5th International Congress of Health and Wellness Tourism”.

The meeting was led by the president of ADTS, Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, and the vice president of the entity Mrs. Amelia Reyes Mora, who also chairs AF Comunicación Estratégica.

Industry leaders attended the event, such as Mr. Luis Espínola, Executive Vice President of Business and Investment at Banco Popular, Ms. Biviana Riveiro, Executive Director of ProDominicana and Ms. Jacqueline Mora, Technical Vice Minister of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Rafael Blanco, President of Asonahores, Joel Santos, tourism advisor to the executive branch, and Dr. Víctor Atallah, medical advisor to the Executive Branch, among other personalities from the health and tourism sector and investors.

The Investment Lunch began with a conference on “Perspective of the Tourism Sector and Investment Facilities in the Dominican Republic” presented by Juan Manuel Martín de Oliva, vice president of the Tourism Business Area of ​​Banco Popular.

Martín de Oliva, highlighted during his participation that tourism is a key sector for the economic reactivation and competitiveness of the country, stating that it is vital to continue promoting public-private alliances, job creation, and the development of strategic niches such as health tourism and retired tourism.

The central theme was the presentation of new projects that together represent an investment of more than 10 billion pesos and will create more than 1,500 direct jobs, which represents a sign of confidence in the government and the future of the Dominican Republic.

The projects presented during the Investment Luncheon were: Wellmed, presented by Mr. Alejandro Marranzini, Development Director of Shearly Investments; Medico Express, by Franchesco Fino; Lasmed Health Center, by its CEO Mr. Massimiliano Scerra; EMG Medical Network, presented by its CEO and founder Dr. Pedro Estrella; Cabrera Health, presented by Dr. Víctor Matos, medical director of Santo Domingo Wellness Center and HOMS Health and Wellness Center, by architect Juan Camilo Medina, director of Real Estate Development at Grupo Estrella.

According to the 2020 Medical Tourism Index, the country was positioned as the number one health tourism destination in the Caribbean region and number two in Latin America.

Moreover, the Study and Diagnosis of Health Tourism in the Dominican Republic points out that this market niche produced more than 13 billion pesos in 2018 and highlightss the need to create the National Health Tourism Council and implement a quality seal.
