President Luis Abinader instructed the Ministries of Public Health and Tourism through Decree 787-21 to prepare policies and strategies for the sustainable development of health and wellness tourism in the country.
For this, the aforementioned ministries must sign an inter-institutional agreement and carry out studies prior to the development of the strategy.
In addition, consult entities such as National Health Insurance (Senasa), the National Association of Private Clinics and Hospitals (Andeclip), the Dominican Medical College (CMD), the Dominican Society of Plastic Surgery (Sodocipre), the Dominican Health Tourism Association, the National Health Service (SNS), the National Association of Tourism and Hotels (Asonahores), and as many institutions and experts as they consider.
Having instructed this, the Executive, in article 3 of the decree, grants a period of 90 days, from the date of the presidential decision, for Public Health and Tourism to deliver a report containing a survey of the current state of health and wellness tourism in the Dominican Republic and of patients who visit the country for such purposes, as well as short, medium and long-term proposals aimed at strengthening and adequate development.
This report must be delivered to the Executive Branch under the coordination of the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, in her capacity as President of the Health Cabinet.
In addition, the presidential decision instructs all other government institutions to provide all the necessary facilities for the preparation of the report.
