With the objective of promoting foreign investment, the creation of jobs and the general development of the country, the Foreign Service will strengthen the promotion of the Dominican Republic as a high-quality health and retirement destination, with competitive prices, to citizens of the world undergoing any medical issues.
This is the purpose of the agreement that was executed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) and the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS), during a ceremony that took place at the Ministry with the diplomatic community.
By virtue of the agreement, the embassies, consulates, and commercial offices that are certified abroad will support the activities that are conducted by the Dominican Health Tourism Association and, among other commitments, they will also hand out the Health and Wellness Destination Guide of the Dominican Republic, with the purpose of orienting about “the medical advances and the updates of the health and wellness services, to favor tourists so that they have access to truthful information”, explained Minister Miguel Vargas.
Upon execution of the document, along with Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the ADTS, Minister Vargas indicated that the diplomatic and consular agents will also take on to attract the establishment of foreign capital in this economic activity, which has “an important transversal effect with respect to the medical system and the development of the country, by promoting the transfer of technologies, best practices and foreign investment”.
He added that such investment of resources in medical tourism and retirement tourism will allow for the growth of the capacities with which the country counts, in order to give world-class health services at competitive prices. It will also promote International certificatios and accreditations to improve quality and safety and also create jobs and invigorate the real estate sector, given that medical tourism also impacts the construction industry.
